Biographie

Théodore Sindikubwabo a été le président intérimaire du Rwanda (9 avril 1994 - 19 juillet 1994) pendant les 100 jours du génocide au Rwanda. Il a été nommé à ce poste après l'assassinat de Juvénal Habyarimana et, bien qu'il ait été chef de l'État pendant les atrocités, il existe de nombreuses théories selon lesquelles il aurait été une marionnette d'un groupe d'officiers militaires. Il a prononcé un discours tristement célèbre sur le meurtre des Tutsis, dans lequel il critiquait ceux qui ne « travaillaient » pas, ce qui était un euphémisme pour désigner les massacres. Il a été renversé par le Front patriotique rwandais et s'est exilé au Zaïre, l'actuelle République démocratique du Congo, où il est mort sans avoir été inculpé.

Biography

Théodore Sindikubwabo was the interim president of Rwanda (9 April 1994 - 19 July 1994) during the 100 days of genocide in Rwanda. He was installed into the post after the assassination of Juvénal Habyarimana, and although he was head of state during the atrocities there are many theories it is believed that he was a puppet of a group of military officers. He made an infamous speech regarding the murder of Tutsis, that criticised those not "working" as a euphemism for the killings. He was overthrown by the Rwandese Patriotic Front and fled into exile in Zaire, present-day Democratic Republic of Congo, where he died without receiving any charges.
