Biographie

Area Scatter était un musicien travesti et un artiste. Il était connu pour jouer d'un piano à pouces, appelé Mbira, et se produisait dans l'est du Nigeria pour les Igbo dans les années 1970. Premier musicien gender-fluid reconnu par les médias grand public, on sait peu de choses de sa vie, si ce n'est ce qui est présenté dans un court métrage pour l'émission documentaire musicale Beats of the Heart, et des enregistrements de son groupe Ugwu Anya Egbulam.

Biography

Area Scatter was a cross-dressing musician and entertainer. Scatter was known for playing a thumb piano, called a Mbira, performing in Eastern Nigeria for Igbo people during the 1970s. As the first gender-fluid musician recognised in mainstream media, little is known of their life other than what is presented in a short feature for the music documentary show Beats of the Heart, and recordings from their band Ugwu Anya Egbulam.
