Biographie

Okot p'Bitek était un poète ougandais qui écrivait en acholi, mais qui traduisait lui-même une grande partie de son œuvre. Son œuvre la plus célèbre est un long poème du point de vue d'une femme africaine rurale dont le mari a déménagé en ville et a occidentalisé sa vie. Song of Lawino a été suivi de Song of Ocol, la réponse du mari.

Biography

Okot p'Bitek was a Ugandan poet who wrote in Acholi, but also self-translated much of his work. His most celebrated work was a length poem from the perspective of a rural African wife whose husband has relocated them to the city and westernising their life. Song of Lawino was then followed up with Song of Ocol, the husband's response.
