Babatonde Olatunji était un batteur, percussionniste, activiste social et éducateur. Il a composé la musique de la production théâtrale de Broadway et de la production hollywoodienne de A Raisin in the Sun. En 1991, il a reçu le Grammy du meilleur album de musique du monde pour sa participation à l'album Planet Drum.
