Simon Nkoli était un militant anti-apartheid, des droits des homosexuels et du sida en Afrique du Sud. Nkoli était un jeune militant contre l’apartheid et travaille avec le Congrès des étudiants sud-africains et le Front démocratique uni. En 1984, il a été arrêté et condamné à mort pour trahison avec vingt-et-un autres dirigeants politiques dans le procès de Delmas. En sortant de prison, il a aidé à éclairer le Congrès national africain sur les droits des homosexuels. Il est acquitté et libéré de prison en 1988, et co-organise la première marche de la fierté en 1990.
Biography
Simon Nkoli was an anti-apartheid, gay rights and AIDS activist in South Africa. Nkoli was a youth activist against apartheid and work with the Congress of South African Students and the United Democratic Front. In 1984 he was arrested and faced the death penalty for treason with twenty-one other political leaders in the Delmas Treason Trial. Coming out while a prisoner, he helped enlighten the African National Congress about gay rights. He was acquitted and released from prison in 1988, and co-organised the first pride march in 1990.
