Ruth Mompati était une enseignante et une femme politique sud-africaine. En 1954, elle a été l'un des membres fondateurs de la Fédération des femmes sud-africaines (FEDSAW). En 1954, elle a rejoint le Congrès national africain (ANC) et a été élue au comité exécutif national de la Ligue des femmes. Elle a été élue députée lors des premières élections démocratiques de 1994. Après sa carrière parlementaire, elle a été nommée ambassadrice en Suisse de 1996 à 2000.
Biography
Ruth Mompati was a South African teacher and politician. In 1954, she was a founding member of the Federation of South African Women (FEDSAW). In 1954 she joined the African National Congress (ANC) and was elected to the National Executive Committee of the Women’s League. She was elected as a member of parliament in the first democratic election in 1994. Following her career in parliament she was appointed ambassador to Switzerland from 1996 to 2000.
