Benjamin Mkapa a été le troisième président de la Tanzanie (23 novembre 1995 - 21 décembre 2005). Sa popularité s'est accrue grâce à son implication dans la lutte contre la corruption. En outre, il a privatisé de nombreux secteurs industriels nationalisés et a tenté de stimuler les investissements étrangers et le développement. Depuis la fin de son mandat, il est lui-même accusé de corruption.
Biography
Benjamin Mkapa was the 3rd President of Tanzania (23 November 1995 - 21 December 2005). His rise to popularity was based upon being heavily involved in anti-corruption activity. In addition he privatised many nationalised sections of industry and tried to stimulate external foreign investment and development. Since the end of his term he has been accused of corruption himself.
