Muthoni wa Kirima était un membre de haut rang de l'Armée de libération des terres (Mau Mau), le mouvement de libération du Kenya dans les derniers jours de la domination coloniale britannique. Elle est la seule femme combattante à avoir atteint le grade de maréchal. Elle a été conseillère municipale en 1990 et le président Uhuru Kenyatta lui a décerné la « Head of State Commendation » (mention élogieuse du chef de l'État) en 2014.
Biography
Muthoni wa Kirima was a top-ranking member of the Land Freedom Army (Mau Mau), Kenya's liberation movement in the final days of British colonial rule. She was the only female fighter to attain the rank of field-marshal. She served as a councilor in 1990 and was awarded the Head of State Commendation by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2014.
