Willem-Alexander is the King of the Netherlands. He acceded to the throne following his mother’s abdication in 2013. In October 2023, King Willem Alexander and Queen Maxima visited the Slave Lodge museum in Cape Town, South Africa. This was as part of a trip tracing and reckoning with the Netherlands’ 150 year involvement in slavery. They were met with protesters outside the building.
