Biographie
Pasteur Bizimungu a été le troisième président du Rwanda (19 juillet 1994 - 23 mars 2000). Il a rejoint le Front patriotique rwandais (FPR) en 1990 après l'assassinat de son frère. Après la mort d'Habyarimana et le génocide de 100 jours qui s'en est suivi, le FPR a fini par prendre le contrôle du pays et il a été nommé président, avec Paul Kagame comme vice-président. Le conflit qui l'oppose à Kagame s'achève en 2000 par la démission de Paul Kagame. Il crée alors un nouveau parti politique, le Parti du renouveau démocratique (PDR), mais celui-ci est interdit par le gouvernement et il est assigné à résidence. En 2004, il a été condamné à 15 ans de prison, mais a été gracié le 6 avril 2007.
Biography
Pasteur Bizimungu was the 3rd President of Rwanda (19 July 1994 - 23 March 2000), he joined the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) in 1990 after his brother was murdered. After Habyarimana's death and subsequent 100 day genocide, the RPF eventually took control of the country and he was made president, with Paul Kagame as vice president. He and Kagame ended up in conflict and eventually, in 2000, he resigned from office. He went on to create a new political party for Democratic Renewal (PDR), however this was outlawed by government and ended up being placed under house arrest. In 2004 he was sentenced for 15 years but was given a pardon on the 6 April 2007.
