Biographie
Liz Johnson Artur est une photographe russo-ghanéenne. Elle a quitté l’Allemagne de l’Est pour s’établir à Londres en 1991 afin d’étudier pour obtenir une maîtrise en arts au Royal College of Art et y vit depuis. Sa pratique tourne autour de la photographie du quotidien de la diaspora africaine à Londres et dans le monde. Elle a réuni ce travail sous le titre The Black Balloon Archive, qui tire son nom de la chanson Black Balloons, d’Oscar Brown Jr et enregistrée par Syl Johnson sur l’album Is It Because I’m Black de 1969.
Biography
Liz Johnson Artur is a Russian-Ghanaian photographer. She moved from East Germany to London in 1991 to study for a Master of Arts at the Royal College of Art and has lived there since. Her practice revolves around photographing the daily life of the African diaspora in London and around the world. She has gathered this work under the title The Black Balloon Archive, which takes its name from the song Black Balloons, by Oscar Brown Jr and recorded by Syl Johnson on the album Is It Because I’m Black from 1969.
