Biographie
Hilda Bernstein était une auteure, artiste et militante contre l’apartheid et pour les droits des femmes. Née à Londres, elle a émigré en Afrique du Sud à l’âge de 18 ans où elle est devenue active en politique. Son mari, Lionel Bernstein, a été jugé et acquitté dans le procès de Rivonia en 1964, après quoi le harcèlement du gouvernement a forcé le couple à fuir au Botswana. Elle a écrit sur ces expériences dans son livre The World that Was Ours, réédité par Persephone Books en 2004.
Biography
Hilda Bernstein was an author, artist, and activist against apartheid and for women’s rights. Born in London, she emigrated to South Africa at the age of 18 where she became active in politics. Her husband, Lionel Bernstein, was tried and acquitted in the Rivonia Trial in 1964, after which government harassment forced the couple to flee to Botswana. She wrote about these experiences in her book The World that Was Ours, republished by Persephone Books in 2004.
