Jeanette Carlson était une militante anti-apartheid. Elle était le chef de file d'une section du mouvement Black Sash. Mobilisant et éduquant les autres, elle s'est engagée dans la résistance, dirigeant des rassemblements devant les bâtiments du gouvernement de l'apartheid et animant des séminaires d'information. Continuant à s'opposer à l'oppression, elle a offert, aux côtés de son mari Joe Carlson, des conseils juridiques gratuits, contribuant notamment à dénoncer les agissements corrompus du gouvernement. Elle s'est notamment occupée de l'affaire des « Potato Labourers », où des Noirs ou des opposants politiques étaient secrètement détenus et exploités dans des fermes de détention après avoir été surpris sans papiers d'identité.

Biography

Jeanette Carlson was an anti-apartheid activist. She was the leader within a section of the Black Sash movement. Mobilising and educating others, she applied herself to resistance, heading rallies outside of apartheid government buildings and leading informative seminars. Continuing to agitate oppression, alongside her husband Joe Carlson, she offered free legal advice specifically helping to expose corrupt government behaviour. This included the case of the ‘Potato Labourers’, where black people or political opponents were secretly detained and exploited in detention farm after being caught without identification papers.
