Biographie

Amadou Toumani Touré a été le quatrième président du Mali (8 juin 2002 - 22 mars 2012). Avant sa présidence, il était chef de la garde présidentielle et a arrêté Moussa Traoré. Il a temporairement assumé la fonction de chef d'État par intérim avant de céder le pouvoir à un dirigeant démocratiquement élu en 1992. Il a failli être destitué en 2012 à la suite d'un coup d'État militaire mené par Ahmadou Sanogo après la gestion des activités rebelles dans le nord du pays. Il a finalement démissionné, cédant la place à une junte qui a promis de transmettre le pouvoir à un gouvernement civil.

Biography

Amadou Toumani Touré held the role of 4th President of Mali (8 June 2002 - 22 March 2012). Before his presidency he was head of the presidential guard and arrested Moussa Traoré and temporarily took over as acting head of state before handing power over to a democratically elected leader in 1992. He was almost deposed in 2012 following a military coup led by Ahmadou Sanogo following the handling of rebel activity in the northern part of the country. He eventually resigned, handing over to a junta who promised to pass power to a civilian government.
