Biographie

Sam Nujoma a été le premier président de la Namibie (21 mars 1990 - 21 mars 2005) et l'un des membres fondateurs de la South West African People's Organisation (SWAPO), actuellement connue sous le nom de SWAPO Party of Namibia. Outre son expérience politique, il a lancé une guérilla contre le gouvernement d'apartheid d'Afrique du Sud en formant l'Armée populaire de libération de la Namibie (PLAN). Il est réputé pour sa politique de « réconciliation nationale », qui consistait à réunir et à servir de médiateur entre les différents groupes ethniques et raciaux de Namibie, qui étaient en conflit après l'indépendance. Il a reçu de nombreuses distinctions et récompenses pour son leadership exceptionnel, notamment le prix Lénine pour la paix, le prix Indira Gandhi pour la paix et le prix Ho Chi Minh pour la paix.

Biography

Sam Nujoma was the 1st President of Namibia (21 March 1990 - 21 March 2005) and is one of the founding members of the South West African People's Organisation (SWAPO) presently known as SWAPO Party of Namibia. In addition to his political experience, he launched a guerrilla war against the Apartheid government of South Africa by forming the People's Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN). He is renowned for his policy of "national reconciliation" which involved the bringing together and mediating between the different groups of ethnicities and races within Namibia, who post-independence were at struggle. He has received multiple honours and awards for his outstanding leadership including the Lenin Peace Prize, Indira Gandhi Peace Prize, and the Ho Chi Minh Peace Prize.
