Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara a organisé un coup d'État et est devenu le cinquième président du Niger (27 janvier 1996 - 9 avril 1999), justifiant son action par une situation politique difficile à la suite des élections de 1995. Il a été tué dans une embuscade alors qu'il tentait de monter à bord d'un hélicoptère. Bien que l'on ait d'abord parlé d'un accident, il a été généralement admis qu'il s'agissait d'un assassinat au fur et à mesure que les détails étaient divulgués.
Biography
Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara staged a coup and took office as the 5th President of Niger (27 January 1996 - 9 April 1999) having justified his actions because of a difficult political situation following the elections in 1995. He was killed in an ambushed attacked whilst trying to board a helicopter, though originally reported as an accident it was generally accepted that it was an assassination as details were released.
