Yakubu Gowon a porté le titre de troisième chef d'État du Nigeria (1er août 1966 - 29 juillet 1975). Il a pris le pouvoir à la suite d'un coup d'État militaire. C'est sous sa présidence que s'est déroulée la guerre du Biafra (6 juillet 1967 - 15 janvier 1970). Il a suspendu indéfiniment le transfert du pouvoir civil en 1974, ce qui a entraîné un soulèvement et un second coup d'État militaire en juillet 1975.
Biography
Yakubu Gowon held the title of 3rd Head of State of Nigeria (1 August 1966 - 29 July 1975). He took power after a military coup d'état. It was during his presidency that the Biafran War was fought (6 July 1967 - 15 January 1970). He indefinitely suspended the handover of civilian rule in 1974 leading to an uprising and second military coup in July 1975.
